There’s a historic photo I found of Lake Harriet that inspired me to look into the past of the bandshell. I found a message someone had written about their memories as a child in the summer of 1920:
“The many picnics we had as a family by the lake and the band concerts that climaxed the day. The salt-water taffy, popcorn and balloons, the walk home along the lake shore through the park where it seemed there were always fire flies lighting our way.” – Margaret J. Hall
The excitement and joy etched in the faces of those from the past are the same ones I see today.
